  8.                                      OVERVIEW
  9.  
  10.      DBS-KAT is a DB-SHAREWARE program software product. Please help us 
  11.      distribute DBS-KAT by sharing unmodified  copies of the DBS-KAT basic 
  12.      system diskette. The DBS-KAT system eventually will include a DBS-KAT 
  13.      add-on, by purchase, diskette. Copying for others of the DBS-KAT add-on 
  14.      diskette is prohibited by Copyright law.

  16.      If you find DBS-KAT useful, we encourage you to register your copy. 
  17.      Registration costs $27.50 & provides these benefits: 
  18.           
  19.       ->Latest DBS-KAT basic system provided if a later version # exists
  20.         (or a coupon entitling you to one free, future base DBS-KAT system).

  22.       ->The DBS-KAT conversion to 2.X & advanced DB Maintenance Utility 
  23.         Software (described below, if purchased separately: $12.50).

  25.       ->You'll be notified of new upgrades and the right to buy future DBS-KAT

  38.      If registered or not, to report DBS-KAT bugs, documentation errors, or 
  39.      suggest improvements, fill out the DBS-KAT Software Problem Report, plus 
  40.      any print screen of the problem. You can print this form by typing:

  43.      Register by mail. Use the order form below. You can create a copy of 
  44.      this form by typing: KAT -O & pressing ENTER. Great Lakes State Residents

  48.      The next subsection covers, among other topics, forthcoming features in 
  49.      DBS-KAT add-on, by purchase, software modules. The base, free, DBS-KAT 
  50.      software intends to be enhanced too.

  52.      You can get a free version of DBS-KAT from friends or local user groups, 
  53.      which have received or ordered their own version, or you can order 
  54.      direct from Applied Foresight.

  56.      If you don't want to register but just want the latest or a newer version 
  57.      of the DBS-KAT base system diskette, you can order direct for $15.00 from 
  58.      Applied Foresight. The $15.00 will entitle you to:

  60.      ->The latest version of the DBS-KAT base system diskette;

  62.      ->Mailing notifications of update releases as well as other forthcoming 
  63.        DB-SHAREWARE products.

  65.      ->$5.00 discount coupon applicable against the cost of any future 
  66.        DBS-KAT registration enrollment.

  68.      DBS-KAT's source code can be purchased separately for $30.00.  A copy of 
  69.      the basic system source files in C & Assembler (some public domain code 
  70.      by Jim Rauser is included). The password checking subroutine is not 
  71.      provided with the purchase & the source code for DB-VISTA database 
  72.      calls must be purchased from Raima Corp., 12201 SE Tenth St., Bellevue, 
  73.      WA  98005.

  75.      Applied Foresight reserves the right to adjust these prices in the
  76.      future.

  78.      If you already have a DBS-KAT version, specify what version you have. If 
  79.      you already have the most recent version, although you will still get 
  80.      the latest version of DBS-KAT existing at the time of your order, in 
  81.      addition, you'll get at no extra charge, the next release of the DBS-KAT 
  82.      base system diskette.

  84.                             FUTURE ADD-ON PROGRAMS
  85.      
  86.      Eventually, add-on, by purchase, program(s) will be available.  These 
  87.      programs will be identified by the spelling KATOPT??.EXE. All then 
  88.      existing KATOPT*.EXE program(s) will be shipped for a given order.

  90.      Plans for the first DBS-KAT add-on program diskette include the following 
  91.      features.  
  92.      
  93.      ->Provide a window-type program to add text comments about individually
  94.        cataloged filenames.
  95.  
  96.      ->Catalog, if user desires, file entries contained in a PKARC or ARC
  97.        Archived file (*.ARC).  DBS-KAT would then allow each of the archived
  98.        filename entries to be edited via the same window-type edit program
  99.        as regular DBS-KAT cataloged filenames.
  100.  
  101.      ->provide a computer-usage logging program utility to aid in keeping 
  102.        track of your use of your computer for IRS purposes.
  103.      
  104.      ->provide a report which most users write in & request. If you want 
  105.        something enhanced or added to DBS-KAT, write in your suggestion.

  107.      PLEASE ALLOW 6-10 weeks for your order to be processed. Your check will 
  108.      not be cashed until the two week period your processed order is 
  109.      shipped.  Use the order form provided by this software. Type KAT -O &

  112.                      OTHER APPLIED FORESIGHT PRODUCTS FOR SALE

  114.      As explained in the DBS-KAT Technical Reference manual, for $12.50, users
  115.      can get a diskette with software to do the following.  Registered users
  116.      get this diskette as part of their registration fee.

  118.      ->provide an enhanced database consistency checking program.
  119.  
  120.      ->provide a database keyfile-rebuild program, in the event you damage
  121.        your keyfiles (KATDB.KE? files) or wish to flush inactive (deleted)
  122.        entries in the keyfiles.
  123.       
  124.      ->allow updating a pre-2.0 DBS-KAT database without re-entry of old
  125.        database information. 
  126.  
  127.      ->provide a program that allows complete deletion (including the diskette
  128.        DBS-KAT header record) of DBS-KAT information for a given numerical
  129.        range of diskette volumes, without having to insert blank disks.
  130.      
  131.      Applied Foresight Inc. is also the producer of the report, "Upgrading 
  132.      Your COMPAQ PLUS (r), PORTABLE (r), or PORTABLE II (r)."  This is an 
  133.      exhaustive research report, based upon actual updatings of both COMPAQ 
  134.      PORTABLE models and COMPAQ PLUS computers by the author.  It provides all 
  135.      the information needed for the average computer user to safely upgrade 
  136.      their COMPAQ.  Orders can be made now.  Please allow 3-6 weeks for 
  137.      delivery.  Previous versions of this report were reviewed in the July
